Trek Kaitai or GT Transeo 3.0 ??
I've been doing a lot of reaserching, reading, and checking out reviews but I'm pretty stuck on which bike to decide on.
I'm mainly commuting to and from work every day as well as going on 30+ mile road rides every other day. The reason I'm looking at a hyrbid is because my rigid fork, 700 x 25c, road bike doesn't quite handle the AZ roads and sidewalks very well as I've discovered since I've moved out here. The sidewalks also tend to drop into dirt patches occassionally as well. I also have a curiosity for trail riding so that's also why I've been looking into a hybrid... to get my feet wet and see if I like trail riding enough to get a second, trail specific, bike.
Both of the models I'm looking at are the 2011 models.
The Trek Kaitai I can pick up for $550. I like it because the geometry feels great when I took it on a test ride, I've always heard they hold a good resale value, and that you can go down to a 28c sized road tire or just put on a 29" knobby for the trails.
The GT Transeo 3.0 seems like a steal that I can pick it up for $400. I haven't test ridden it yet, but I like the fact that it has disc brakes and streamlined cables. Not to mention I'll be able to pocket $150 over the Trek. I just haven't been able to find any reviews on the GT and tire size compatability is a concern of mine.
Just looking to receive any input I can on the purchase decision between these two bikes. Both seem like a great deal but I don't know much about specifics. I can't go over $600 and I've looked around quite a bit so I'm pretty comfortable having my choices narrowed down to these two bikes. Any help and constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

No opinions? Just looking for any thoughts on the two considering it's going to be a pretty major purchase for me... trying to see if there's anything to look out for

I love the KaiTai. I have the Utopia but would have been happy with the kaitai just as well. Don't know anything about the GT. I have the disk brakes on the utopia but I don't know if they are all that necessary. Test ride both of them and see which one feels the best.
