Hybrid Carbon question...
I have really grown fond of my 2014 Trek FX 7.7. Hybrid bikes have really renewed my interest an dlove of biking. The Trek is an Awesome bike and I have ridden it quite often. Long story short I just sold my Mountain Bike on Ebay because I simply ride roads. I was going to take that money and put it into purchasing a Sirrus carbon comp.
I am very close to purchasing a 2015 Specialized Sirrus Carbon Comp. Is it redundant and a waste to purchase another higher end carbon bike? Is my Trek FX 7.7 too close to the carbon sirrus comp?
Thoughts?

Sounds like you would be better off with a DS/Crosstrail bike.

Thanks for the response!
My thinking is comparable to those who own multiple road bikes. (which it seems like there are many). They alternate bikes, etc.
Tough decision I have to make.

If you only ride roads, it would be foolish to go the dual sport route. Mho.
on the other hand, have you ridden both, the new Trek, and Specialized Sirrus carbon?
Which one fits better. Which one rides better. Which one trips your trigger?
Do you want one to be a fast ride, and one to be more comfortable?
I absolutely understand your dillema , and think you should go for what you like!

Personally I think it would be a waste of money to buy the new Sirrus. You already have one of the best Hybrid bikes out there. Unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I wouldn't do it.
What about a road bike or something different?

Agree with Rsmith, go for a road bike for a different riding position and for different uses. If you have the money to burn though, do what makes you happy and get the carbon sirrus.

I have a slightly different take. If you want the Sirrus, and you will not be hurt financially (i.e. family), then that is all the reason you need. Beyond that they do appear to be very similar on paper. You would need to ride them both more than just around the parking lot to choose. BUT IMHO if you decide the Sirrus is better for you, or that you rather have a road bike and a hybrid, then you could sell the Trek, then buy the Sirrus and a Road bike if that is your preference. I personally have a Sirrus and a Allez, but I would not want two hybrids or two Roadies. I will probable part with the Sirrus late this year. Replacement to be another hybrid with disc breaks, and maybe carbon for a more comfortable ride in the chip-seal roads not far from my house.
There is one very clear reason IMHO to go with the Sirrus. I unintentionally ended up in the rain a week or so ago, and really wanted those disc breaks. In the dry, the standard breaks on my Sirrus are excellent, but when I got caught in rain, with lots of hills, and stops for traffic, I wasn't too happy with them. 30 miles of showers, hills, traffic stops, etc have pretty much made it clear for me. Disc breaks would be very good reason to go with the carbon Sirrus over the Trek FX IMHO. Don't know what is up with Trek and their near refusal to use disc breaks on most anything but mountain bikes.
Unexpected rain may not be a problem for you, but it happens several times a year here. I'm pretty much a weather geek too, and I still got caught in the rain.

It is very redundant. I have two hybrids that after tweaking were more or less the same type of bike. I decided to convert one to drop bar. If I were you, think about a drop bar road bike. If you don't want a hard core road bike, a cyclocross bike has the best of both worlds.

Thank you all for sharing your opinions. I'm probably alone in this but I hate road bike handlebars. Over the last 10 years I've been pro fitted for road bikes that were 1500-2500 bikes and they've never been enjoyable. Not to sound hokey but I love carbon and hybrid bikes have renewed my love of riding. FX 7.7 and Sirius carbon are similar but in a way both very different in frame, breaks, ride-etc. for me it would simply be a change of pace bike. One day ride one another day ride the other. People do the same with motorcycles, snowmobiles, etc. Just simply alternating between bikes. I have a deposit down-I'm going to the bike shop Wednesday to make final decision. I do know this hybrid bikes are fantastic. The question now is am I just wasting money. Part of me says yes but the other part is blind to that. You guys give great advice tho and I'm appreciative of you!

I've not yet test ridden a Sirrus Carbon, but all I know is - these bikes look phenomenal.
