Question about adding bar ends...
I recently got my wife a white 2012 Specialized Vita and she rode it for 37 miles this weekend...she loves the bike but having to ride that long she was hoping for different hand positions. She's also hoping to the the Cinderella Classic next year.
I was thinking of adding the Specialized A1 dirt rodz (http://www.mtbr.com/cat/controls/bar...664_90crx.aspx) to her Vita...will this work? If so (pardon my ignorance), but where do I put this? on the inner end after the grips or after shifting levers? Thanks! |
These go on the far outside of the grip (the very end of the bars) ... hence the term 'bar ends'. Nothing wrong with adding those to a bike like that. Two other options to look at that might be a little more comfy:
Specialized BG Contour Targa Grip/Bar End (combo) http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=64418 Specialized Overendz Bar Ends http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=64537 |
The Ergon grips and bar ends are really nice too.

+1 on the Ergon GC3's. I have them on both of my bikes and I love em.

I extended a set of the type you posted a link for, and then added matching grips. The secondary hand position is very nice. Trekking bars are also widely used for this.

Thank you for all the suggestions.
I might go with the BG Contour Targa Grip/Bar End (Black/White) just because I think she'd prefer something to match her bike. http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/...jsp?spid=64418 |
I have a set of the basic Ergon grips. Is it possible to add bar-ends to them or do I have to purchase a whole new set of grips?

Yes I did see it and just went back and reread it. Thanks.

I looked around a bit on line and there are some bar ends out there that are longer than others you might find something that will work for you without doing the mod. Otherwise finding a thin tube that can slip in or slip over the bar end and getting a good tight fit is about all I can offer. Epoxy glue might also help. |
