Well I finally fell, couldn't get un-clipped in time. I'll have to remember to un-clip when I brake, as stated above. I also put my arms out and rolled when I hit the concrete. Left wrist bent back so now have a bad sprain, thought I broke it. I had 4 collar bone surgeries a few years back, and wanted to protect it. Nothing broken, so as soon as the pain subsides, I'll get back out there. At first I thought of getting some decent platform pedals, but now I want to stick with the shimanos. Just need to practice un-clipping more I guess.

I have used SPD clipless for over 1.5 years now...I find it tough to go back to platform pedals. I like the dual platform pedals from Wellgo (W-40's I believe) so that I can just jump on the bike with normal shoes for short runs to the shop.
I've had one spill about 2 months ago. I was just turning a corner at low speed...coming from a small overpass bridge onto a road way. Right at the bridge/roadway connection, there was a flat wide metal junction plate...basically the apex of my turn was right on that plate. It was a cold morning, about 1 deg above freezing and the metal must of had frost...WAM, bike slipped out from under me and I landed pretty hard on my right knee. I was out of the clip after the fall...but I don't think I got it released before hitting the ground. Only now has my knee started feeling 90%+ recovered...possible torn meniscus was what the therapist called it. |

Exactly why I said that when the guy in that video clip put his hand out to try and stop his fall, it was the worst thing he could have done.

I finally got back out for a ride after my fall, hurt my wrists real bad. Sure was nice out today, if my wrists don't hurt tomorrow, I'll go for a much longer ride. Could have kept going today, but didn't want to push it.

I actually put my pedals on about a week ago and have rode about 30 miles with them... Finally took my spill on Monday...Came up to a stop and forgot for some reason..luckly i was able to bunny hop the bike twice towards the grass as i fell so I essentially just sat down in the grass lol....

Sure feels good to be back out riding, just need to remember to un-clip when I hit the brakes as stated above. I now stay a lot more aware of when I might need to be un-clipped, and do so.
