Sizing
I have a 21" Jamis Coda Sport and am looking to buy a Motobecane Cafe Century Pro. What would be the equivalent size in Motobecane?
|
First off, how tall are you?
|
A 21 inch would be 53.34cm. 1 inch equal 2.54cm. I believe road bike frame are measured different from hybrids etc. Someone will chime in soon with the details. I'm no road bike expert.

Effective top tube (ETT) length is what you want to focus on. I'd say go for the 55 or 58 depending on what sort of riding position you want and your cycling inseam. The 58cm will give you more adjustability in terms of bar height relative to the seat. Just make sure the standover height on the 58cm isn't taller than your cycling inseam measurement. The 55cm with a 130-140mm stem will place the bars lower and give you a position that is very close to your 21" Coda.

Checking on most road bikes sizing. It says 58cm for 5ft11-6ft1 and 60cm for 6ft1-6ft3. I would get a 58cm.

I wouldn't mind being a bit more upright from the Coda position.

[QUOTE=Dunbar;14224206]Then I would get the 58cm. Basically this is what it refers to. Although with sloping top tubes it's a little more complicated. Not sure if 32" is your pant inseam or cycling inseam. If it's your pant inseam standover height shouldn't be an issue on the larger 58cm.
Thank you. |
What is the standover height on the two sizes? If the 58 is going to fit like a thong, it's the wrong size. If it has 1", it may be fine. The next measurement to consider is the effective top tube length, ie reach. It can be hard guessing between two sizes. I think the general wisdom is to prefer smaller of two sizes. That's why buying locally has fewer issues.
