new to forums got a question about tires

hiya i am new to the forums here. I have a giant sedona bicycle and am very happy with it and the bontranger tires i have on it now. I had recently purchased a used giant 1020 custom bike for my girl and she really likes it. i have gone through it all and tuned it up but i do need a little help with tires. I would like to replace them with new ones since they show some age i was wondering the size on them now says 700 x 38c. I was looking at some kenda tires that are 700 x 40c and they seem like a good price and good for what we use the bikes for. any ideas if these would work on these rims? i think they would just want to make sure. thanks for the help.

What is the rim size? On the rim, it should say 622x15 etc. The 15 is the rim size. Scroll down to the green and red chart to see which tires fits on the rim. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width

Yes, the 40mm tire will be fine. You could use as narrow as 28mm if you wanted, just for future reference.

Thanx I went with the original 38c tire with some more meat on the sides for better handling
