I posted them here because this time last year all hell broke loose on 41 when I posted flatbar road bikes there and a moderator moved the post to Hybrid. Hybrid folk on this forum seem to be more accepting and most appreciate all forms of the "hybrid" term. BTW, here in Japan there is no "hybrid" classification. We use the term crossbike, not to be mixed up with cyclocross bike.

Why do you guys call that section "41"?

alexaschwanden 09-01-14 09:34 AM

Maybe that is the average age?

That is a very good question, and I don't have an answer for it. All I know is that their pages/ their cave on this forum are called that way. I don't even like to go there. These folks are mostly for competition, keeping up with joneses, and their noses are high in the clouds IMO. I posted my 2 cents about them before, and all hell broke loose. It's like bicycle mafia, and they seem to be very ignorant. I will stick to hybrid, and having fun riding my bikes.

I think I can live with that. Besides, I really do like the colors and graphics on this one:

We refer to it as the '41' because that number formerly appeared in its url, and that is how we continue to refer to it.

Do you know what was the original URL address, and why 41 was there? Were recreational cyclist called 69 in the past? ;-)

Question 2: by whom?;)

LOL What is with the "Flat Bar Road Bike"? Not so very long ago a "roadie" would not be caught dead on a bike with flat bars - only "hybrid" and mountain bikes had those, and the roadies looked WAY down on anyone who DARED ride one of THOSE "damn hybrid bikes" ... (we who had a hybrid were considered a couple steps below pond scum and worm sh*t by the roadies and hard core mountain biker's.) NOW, it seems drop bar road bikes are becoming a thing of the past; replaced by (horrors of horrors) a road bike with flat handlebars! Some even have the audacity of claiming to be "hybrid' bikes. (How the heck a full carbon racing frame with high end racing components like Duara Ace or Sram Red, carbon wheels, and 700-23 tires can be considered a hybrid ...)
Did enough roadies got passed by grandpa on a real hybrid (suspension fork and suspension seat post, platform pedals, wide tires, and 21 to 27 speeds) to decide that maybe a flat bar and more upright riding position was not a bad thing, after all?

No, drop bar road bikes have not gone anywhere and have not dropped in popularity at all. And no, a flat bar on an otherwise road bike is not going to lend any more to being in an upright riding position.

Many vBulletin-based forum sites with a bunch of forums on the site just have numbers to differentiate each forum in the URL. I'm on Honda-Tech.com and each forum over there has "forumdisplay.php?f=xxx" in the URL where xxx is a unique number for each forum.

Some vB sites have moved to using the forum name in the URL, like on here.

69 sounds like fun. Can't say that about 41 :-)

I wish I knew what some of these bikes cost. I have an older Trek that I got off CL for $200 and I'm perfectly happy with it, or at least I was until I saw some of this eye candy. Now I'm looking some of the bikes up on Ebay or manufacturers web sites. I have a bunch of gift cards that I've been hoarding that my wife doesn't know about. Hmmm......:innocent:

I turned my Specialized Hardrock 29er into a Hybrid and love it...if I want to hit the dirt, I just swap tires in minutes.
