Giant Dash sizing question

Hi!

I'm quite new to cycling and yesterday upgraded my bog standard cheap bike to a 'proper' bike! But now i have a sizing question.

I am just over 5ft 7 and when measured in the shop yesterday my inseam was 33cm. The guy in the shop seemed really knowledgeable about bike sizing etc particularly in regard handle/seat positioning, leg stretch etc, so I really went on his advice after a couple of test cycles around the block.

So I bought a ladies giant dash in large, which from what I can tell is about a 21inch/53.5cm frame. I do need to do a proper cycle to test it out, but in the meantime i notice a sticker on the bike saying rider size large= 5ft 10 - 6ft. I'm a good 3 inches shorter than 5ft 10, so am a bit worried this frame will be too big for me. I have about 1inch standover clearance at the lowest point of the top tube, but am flush with it at it's highest point. I know it ultimately boils down to comfort/preference but as I am so new to this, I really haven't got that aspect figured out yet.

Any advice on whether in general this bike could possibly be too big, given my height and inseam.

Thanks
Elizabeth

It should be fine for your size.

You have a very high inseam for your height.

I am 6 ft with a 34 inch inseam and ride a 60 cm bike.

Well, if your inseam really is 33cm, instead of 33"...

Looking over the geo specs, there is not quite a full inch difference in stand over between the M and L, but there is a 1.5" difference in the top tube/"reach".

Talk to the shop about fitting you to a Medium as well. Some of us who are on the border between two sizes prefer a slightly smaller frame.

Thank you both! Very helpful - I think I'll stick with what I have, just first time buyer nerves! And yes, I meant inches not cm ;)

I have a 21 inch frame with only a 32 inch inseam and I like the fit so I'd think you'd be right in the ball park, but I thought 21 inch would be closer to 56cm??
