Hybrid Bike Wheel Size Question
Hello Everyone!
I wanted to purchase a new bike for my GF. I know she really likes the Felt Cafe 8. So I was looking at this model in particular. However, I am not to familiar with bike sizing. So here is my question. The bike is offered in two Sizes:
S (16"), M (18") x 700c
My GF is about 5-6" - 5-7", most of which is accounted for by her long legs. I am not sure which model would be a better fit for her, or how big of a difference there is between the two sizes.
Can anyone help me out in regards to this?
Thanks!

Take her to the shop you're buying the bike from and have them fit her. That's their job and they are a better option than having someone on line tell you.

with long legs and a short torso (I have 32" inseam and I'm 6' tall...), I'm thinking that the Medium is her fit on that specific bike.
there's plenty of other bikes she could consider in that style, I'm assuming its the stepthrough, high handlebars, and fenders that appeal to her?
Specialized:

Globe (a Specialized 2nd label)

Giant:

note too that you can get and install fenders and racks on most any bike as long as the frame isn't too oddball. and some of those bikes I linked come in multiple versions at different price levels.

If your going with just that bike then 18" would be the choice. My wife has a Electra Amsterdam that is a 1 size fit all. She's 4'10 and rides it with the seat all the way down but loves it....I can jack the seat up (I'm 5'10 ) and like riding it better than my Electra Cruiser.

my wife had a specialized expedition stepthrough that she loved, but it was destroyed in a car accident (while on the car rack) along with my old hybrid, so I got her a like-new 2009 globe carmel and she loves it every bit as much. I put a Moxie seatpost on the new one (like a Thudbuster)
its a totally different ride than my bike. its fun for relatively short rides, but I wouldn't want to go 10 miles on it.
here's the Expedition...
(and here's after...)

Thanks so much pierce, the electra is a beautiful bike. You are correct about the styles. I was going to purchase the bike online because there was an extremely good price tag on it, unfortunatley the only model they had was the small and it was their last one \
btw sorry about your bikes, what a shame.

warning on buying bikes online... you have to assemble it and tune it yourself. typically low end bikes like these, the wheels need tuning and truing right out of the box. you'll need to know how ot adjust indexed shifting to work smoothly, setup the brake pads for just the right toein and alignment with the rims, etc etc. if you're experienced, all these things are easy, but for a newcomer, I don't recommend it.
