Giant Sedona vs Raleigh Route 3.0
 

Hi,
I'm looking to purchase a bike, and settled on a hybrid for versatility and lighter weight. Locally I have found both of these models and the prices are very similar ($405 for the Giant and $420 for the Raleigh) Any thoughts on which brand is better? Or are they both about equal?

Both Giant and Raleigh make good bikes, you won't go wrong either brand. Focus on what fits the best, which one you like more, and which shop treats you better.

From the specs, those two bikes have similar component levels. I'm not a fan of suspension forks on lower model bikes as the the other components are a bit lower end to offset the extra cost of suspension. Are you sure you need the suspension fork? Go ride both bikes and see which fits you better. Size/fit trumps looks when purchasing bikes.

+1 on the suspension. I think suspension on lower cost bikes that will mostly be used on pavement and MUP's is a waste of good money that could be used on component upgrades.

I actually have the Sedona and feel the Raleigh is a better value with 700cc wheels. The Sedona is a very heavy bike but to it's credit, you can buy the version without the front shocks. You don't really need the shocks because your hands are high and not too much pressure is being applied on them. However, the Raleigh does have front shocks but find out if you can lock them out!

As for the Sedona, I found that it's weight was an issue at first. Then as I was getting strong, the weigth became even less an issue each passing week! It's kind of funny but I thought there is no way I'm going to ride this bike for more than one summer. Today, it remains in my stable because it's the most stout bike in my entire fleet. It's way overbuilt and strong like a mountain bike!

Keep the tires pumped to 70 PSI and it rolls!
