Gary Fisher sizing?

Sorry if this is a stupid question-- I tried the search feature and couldn't find the exact answer I'm looking for...

Anyways, newbie here who hopes to get a bike for a short commute (2 mi) to work in the spring. I found a bike online that's the same model as one I test-rode in the fall and loved, but didn't want to pay the $450 price tag at the time. It's a 17.5" Gary Fisher Wingra and it looks great (with a solid price to boot), but I forget the exact size of the one I rode in the fall...I'm 5'8" 165 lbs with a 30" pants inseam. Checking some sizing charts online, though, it appears that 17.5" (44.5 cm) frame would be too small. Would this be true? Or is Gary Fisher hybrid sizing a bit different?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend the next size up, 19.5" I think. I am 5'9" and in a mtb I like 18" frames, but 22-23" for a road bike.

I have a Gary Fisher Monana 17.5, I am 5.9. I found it was a little small in the cockpit, i extended the stem which helped. I found a 19 too tall for me. You really need to sit on it yourself and see how you like.

Thanks for the advice! I'll hold off from buying online and wait to test ride both sizes in person. That's the smartest thing to do...

I just picked up a 2006 Trek Pilot 1.2. 19.5" frame fits great. You can study the frame geometry for both at trekbikes.com

I'm similar in size to you and my hybrid is a medium, 19." I prefer my hybrid to fit a bit more like a MTB, which I ride a 17.5." I like the lower standover and manueverability of a smaller frame. My road bike, by contrast, is a 54cm.

So the 19.5 should work for you, but ride a few sizes to be certain.

I bought a Trek (GF design) DS 8.6 recently. The stealership thought I fit a 19" but i INSISTED on the 21" they had to order. Fits a treat for me at 6', 230#, 34.75" inseam with longer than normal arms by 1.5".

Get help, strip down and use this site. You are looking for French Fit most likely.
