aerobars on a flatbar?

That is my long distance mtb. I've done at least 100 100-220km long rides on her. Very comfortable and reliable. Fast enough, but she has one major flaw. When the wind blows against me my body becomes a sail and thats plain tiring. I know... drops. But I've tried them and we don't get along. Road bikes and me just aren't compatible. I do need a way to deal with hours of riding into a headwind. Aerobars came to mind. I already use my barends to brace my forearms if it gets really windy but thats uncomfortable for more than 5 minutes at a time. Anyone runnng aerobars on a flatbar? If so how useful are they? I always ride solo so group ride rules need not apply.

Just something to consider. I like the setup for wind and different hand positions.

Nice bike!

Aero bars are one possibility but if it was me , I'd start by flipping the stem, reducing the bar width, and going for longer barends - Ergon GP5's to be precise. Aerobars afterwards only if that didn't get me where I wanted to go.

Thanks shes a labor of love built up over 8 months or so to fit me like a glove.

They look a lot cheaper than aerobars. :) What size bar will they clamp to?

I chopped a bit off the bars on my cheap commuting hybrid so they match my shoulder width and it certainly feels comfortable. Long bar ends help? I suspect you may be right, it would simulate to an extent the feel of the hoods on a roadbike.

I thank you for the good idea. Went and paid $5 for some old bull horns and put them in the middle. Work awesomely for folding myself up and offer at least 3 more hand positions. Thing is they are the wrong color. Fortunately I have another hybrid which matches them perfectly and was having reach issues anyway. Thus my hybrid solves an issue thats been bugging me for a while AND I saw some really nice flat black bar ends in the same style as my fuji for $35 at my favorite LBS which will be installed tomorrow. :) Its just a pity my shopping basket bike (the one behind the white one) is so covered with baskets and thus I can't give it the same treatment.
