Shimano Deore M591 for hybrid - chainline issues?
Hi, hybrid'ers.
My 1998 Specialized Crossroads Pro currently has the original Nexave crank with riveted chainrings (48/38/28). It needs to be replaced and I am considering a Shimano Deore M591 as a replacement with 48/36/26. I am basically upgrading the whole drive-train taking it to 9-speed in back and new rear derailleur and shifter pods. Would like to stick with the existing front derailleur if possible. It just works nicely and is not chewed up like the rear derailleur.
This bike is used mostly for commuting and some light touring & hauling.
I may be mistaken but I thought I read somewhere that putting a mtn bike crank on a hybrid changes the chainline???
Has anyone put the Deore M590 or M591 on their hybrids and have some wordly advice to offer?
Also, I have asked elsewhere but would appreciate confirmation on the front derailleur. I have Nevave FD-T401 which is spec'ed to swing 20T. The Deore cranks are 22T and with the potential for chainline issues is it likely I'll need to budget for a new front derailleur?
Thanks to all for helping me to learn so much.

hybrids normally have mountain bike chain lines, as they are usually 135mm rear.
5mm either way, who cares?
