My first 25!!
Hey guys, I just started cycling 2 weeks ago and have only been able to go out a few times due to weather. But today, I pushed out my first 25 mile ride! I'm super excited about it, I feel very accomplished.
I rode 25.4 miles in 1 hour 54 minutes, averaged 13.4 MPH I don't know how that is, but I always strive to improve. I'm still incredibly new to cycling, I keep trying to find info on how to improve my avg MPH, but sometimes their tips are a little over my head. I don't have any equipment to tell me my cadence and from what I gather that's the best way to improve my over avg mph. But I feel very proud of my accomplishment today. Very proud to be a part of this community. |
Nice job!
What kind of bike are you riding? |
Oh, I bought a Trek 7.1 and put road tires on it
|
Congrats.. something about that first 25 can't be beat. I have a trek 7.2, so we are very similar. which tires did you swap to? Also, cadence (speed of pedaling) and gears will affect avg mph a lot. an inexpensive cadence counter will do wonders.
again congrats on the milestone. im aiming for my 50 soon. (been 35 so far) |
oh yea? I'd love to get one, do I just search cadence counter? Or any that you guys suggest to help me improve?
As far as my tires, I really don't know. The guy at the shop suggested them and tossed them on as a free swap when I bought it. So I'd imagine something basic |
Congratulations on your first 25. 13.4 mph isn't too shabby. Set realistic goals for yourself but more important, have fun.
You can always check your cadence manually if you have a stopwatch feature or seconds counter on your bike computer. |

So I'd imagine something basic http://www.rei.com/search?sortby=Pri...ence%2CCadence at my local REI there is also a Garmin 130? that's priced close to the cateye units.. not listed on website but I've seen it in store. not sure if it counts cadence or not. |
Cateye Strada w/Cadence, wired. Is very easy to install, and battery lasts forever.....
|
OK I will look that up, very excited! Is there a tip n' tricks forum somewhere in the forums that I can read to show me how to use that info and well as gear switching tips to increase my avg speed?

I think this is what I have, it's a catseye, it's wired, also has speed, distance, and clock
The CATEYE hes talking about, is wired cadence... you def. know if you have one... usually, every time you wipe the frame down. ( Made me wish I spent the extra 50$ for the wireLESS ) Looks like a rat-nest when first out of the box/package... does not look any better once on the frame.
