Exclamation Torn- Which Hybrid**********

Ok, so I'm back to looking at hybrids again. I'm looking at 3 bikes. I am 32 years old, 5'4" and in good shape. I plan on using the bike mostly for exercising- riding on bumpy roads for about 10-15 mi/day. I am also planning on a charity ride that's 70 miles- you get on and off the bike at random stops and a sprint Tri. But, mainly I just want to attach my son's car seat and drive around town.

These are the bikes I'm down to:
Jamis Coda Comp- I did not test ride it yet- going tomorrow
Trek 7.2 FX- felt great
Specialized Vita Elite- loved it and the color, but not the price

While price is a big point for me and its difficult to justify spending the money on the Specialized vs the Trek when I didn't really feel a difference, I'm thinking there must be a bid difference if the price is almost $300 more. And then there's the Jamis... Looks good on paper.

Any thoughts?

The steel of the Coda will be more forgiving on those bumpy roads.

I would def get the Specialized vita Elite. Carbon fork, narrower 700x28 tires, 9 speed. It is always recommended to get the best you can afford--otherwise you will end up upgrading and it'll cost you more in the end.

I do like the narrower tires on the Vita, and then I don't think I would have to switch them out for race day. But, I really didn't want to drop $830 on a bike unless its really worth it. Do you think it is?

the vita elite is listed as a womens specific geometry frame. if you're a guy it may feel kinda cramped comparably, but if you've ridden it and liked it....its a very nice bike, not sure of the wheels

the jamis is a steel frame w/ carbon forks. probably a comfortable ride but maybe a touch heavier. decent all around Id get skinnier tires for it.

the trek is the cheapest of the 3 and for good reason.

of those 3 Id probably say jamis.

right around the same price, some assembly required:

If anyone has any other suggestions for another bike- please let me know. Maybe I'm missing something here.
