How far can you ride a Hybrid?
I know this is a silly question, but can I take my Hybrid on a 100km run? I am just not sure what the limitations are for a hybrid or why folks ride road bikes for long runs rather than taking their hybrids.
Please help this dumb newbie out!
Thanks

Yes a hybrid can be ridden 100k, whether you personally can do that, I have no clue. A road bike may be a little lighter and little more aerodynamic, so it may be a bit easier and faster. And the drop bars let you use different hand positions. And just FYI, the very first 200k I did (actually 131 miles) was on my Worksman cruiser, which is a notch below a hybrid in terms of riding ease. I've seen people ride mountain bikes on local 200k's, also.

Wow, I thought that getting 25 miles on mine was far, but I see I have to step my game up, lol.

This subject comes up fairly often, and I'm not entirely sure why. Assuming that you have the physical ability to do it, you could pedal a hybrid as many miles as you wanted; that's not to say that a hybrid will be the best tool for the job, but you could do it.

Sure, I've ridden my Giant Sedona that far and more. If YOU can handle it, the bike can.
There are stories out there of people riding coast to coast, around the world and continent to continent on them. Years ago they were considered just your ordinary average bike, made of steel with huge balloon tires and people still rode long trips.

If Annie Londonderry could go as far as she did on this, https://www.annielondonderry.com/gallery/bike.html, we can go pretty far on a modern hybrid.
OK, I know she cheated a lot, but still, she put some decent miles on that thing, and the roads in 1894-5 weren't exactly great.

Road bikes are designed to go faster. But a quality bike in any category will be able to go the distance with enough air pressure in the tires.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
I rode many centuries on my Trek hybrid, albeit with drop bars, to make for a nicer comfort level and it was as good a long distance bike as any of my touring bicycles.
Any well fitted and comfortable bicycle can be ridden as far as you are able to, road bicycles tend to be some of the least comfortable long distance bicycles because of the aggressive riding position and less forgiving ride qualities.

My wife and I go on 20km after work rides everyday through our bike path system and at once a week for a longer ride. Last one was 38km in 1.5h in 46deg C humidity weather. As everyone says... its not the bike its you that will give up.

This ^^^^ AND adjust your seat, it's surprising how much difference just a few degrees can make on a saddles comfort. And remember LARGER is not always more comfortable. I went to a smaller saddle and am very comfortable now over the giant over-sized one I started out with.

Excellent! I don't feel so stupid now, since obviously the question comes up a fair bit. Guess I had better start training for the longer runs. I am very fortunate in that I live in a place with lots of good roads and about 7kms in I'm in the country which is just beautiful riding...now I want to go further into the countryside! happy riding!

There's things you can do to your bike to better handle longer distances.
Skinnier tires will roll easier and a "bit" faster. The degree depends on what you already have and what you switch to. (Less weight to accelerate too)
Change the cassette to more "road" type gears if you don't have monster hills. That allows you to ride a cadence that is more efficient.

I forgot to add that a saddle with a groove in the center may help as well, my new one has it and it's a godsend.

Specialized crosstrail, 28mm slick tires, padded shorts, suspension seat post and I can easily do 100 + miles days. It takes much longer to do the same distance on a hybrid comparing to a road bike, and my biggest issue is always the seat comfort.
