Group rises with Hybrid- How to begin

I have the Cannondale Quick 4. I ride the local paved Swamp rabbit trail with a 350 feet gain over a 11 mile ride and the return of 11 miles at a overall speed of 11.9 miles per hour.
I would like to join a group ride but most of the ones I see have 3 different groups and the slowest group is 12-14 miles per hour. It looks like they are geared towards road bikes rather than hybrids. I have never ridden in a group before. Can hybrids be used for group rides and how do I start learning to do it? How do I partake in one?

Go for it, a tenth of a mile slower after an hour? That's 528', absolutely nothing.

ENJOY it's not a race!
