Well I personally don't use a kickstand. I have had 2or3 people say to me "you mean you paid $________ for that bike and you didn't even get a kickstand? But like some have already said, when I ride my bike, I ride it, I don't park it. If I go to a convenient store for juice or snacks I lock it up. When I stop to rest I just lean it up or lay it on the ground. I have been told that its stupid to lay a bike on the ground but I carry a soft cloth to clean up any dirt that might get on it. I just don't want anything else to add to my pre-ride checklist. IMHO

Oh and by the way, I am 51 years old so the "cool factor" is not an issue. Just don't find the need for one.

Precisely. I am glad you understand.

Oh you must be the guy in the leotard, sucking down a pouch of maltodextrin and who's only unit of measure is the gram. Kudos to you for for being the epitome of cool.

This thread is making ZERO progress other than sh1t stiring / trolling.
On to 4 pages now of 'you need one' / 'you don't need one' 'I'm superior' / 'No I am'

The person who posted the thread only replied once, and contributed nothing, so clearly he doesn't really care.
AND neither should we.

I am so much the epitome of cool, that I probably could pull off a leotard.

I can understand, if you are too dumb to operate a kick stand you don't need one.

I just ordered a Greenfield for my new Giant Escape RX1. I like the convenience of a stand when I'm moving the bike around in the garage, visiting a friend/neighbor, or stopping at the store. I don't care about the roughly 8oz it adds and am too old to worry about looking cool.

BTW, the Giant has a mounting plate for a stand, probably wouldn't add one if it didn't.

This is one of my qualms with kickstands not being "in." The manufacturer should just put a place for mounting one if you want it. My chainstays are spread too far apart for the clamping style ones so now I have to purchase one that goes on the end of the chain stay and can accommodate disc brakes. Really narrows down my selection.

I considered this one but decided I was too cheap to spend 40 bucks  http://upstandingbicycle.com/
