Hybrid Weight
 

Just weighed my Diamondback Edgewood LX and came up with thirty-three pounds. Does that sound about right for that bike? Reason I'm asking is that I'm not too overly sure about the scales I'm using.

Hoping someone can tell me if I'm in the ballpark so that I don't have to run down another scale.

Probably about right especially if you've added things like a seat bag, water bottle holders, a pump, etc.

Although very functuional, weight was not a concern when the componets of your bike were chosen by diamondback designers. the focus was to meet a specific price point.

your crankarms are steel instead of aluminum. as are your handlebars.

your off brand suspension forks, suspension seatpost, and adjustable stem are quite heavy im sure compared to more expensive, purposely designed to be lightweight components.

I would not concern yourself with trying to upgrade this bike to reduce weight. It will be very expensive for seemingly minor reductions. overall it will make a difference but at the cost of 2x what you paid initially.

Ride her and enjoy her. If components break and you decide to keep this bike then you may want to purchase lighter replacements or upgrade the bike completely.

If you are worried about the scales just put a bag of unopened flower on it and compare the scales with the weight on the bag

Is that just the bike with no add-ons?
I have a Diamondback Edgewood and I don't have a clue what it weights.

Thanks, guys. I have no intention of trying to upgrade this beast, but I am having a lot of fun with it. Trying to talk She Who Must Be Obeyed into letting me get a true road bike in a much lighter range next year. I added a handlebar bag, water bottle holder, El Cheap computer and that is about it.

Checked my scales as suggested and they seem to be right on the money.

What? We have a very good marriage. She's 5' tall, weighs what she weighs and I'm 6'2" and weigh over 200 lbs. I don't make her mad and she doesn't beat me up!!

If you've ever read any of H. Rider Haggard's books, you'll recognize the reference. At least one of those books was made into a movie, "King Solomon's Mines".

I have a new Giant Escape City that weighs 29.6 pounds, without the panniers. With the panniers and me and 20 lbs of groceries it must weigh at least 240 lbs. If I shaved 5 pounds off the bike's weight (or mine!), that would reduce the total mass by a little over 2%. So I don't worry about it, except when I'm lifting it up to hang in the garage.

The weight sounds about right with all the gear you have added. My dback city classic weighs in at a smooth 29 pounds.
