Conversion to Disc Brakes?

I'm giving serious consideration to converting my Specialized Crosstrail to Discs Brakes. Yes, the frame is already set up for discs...

Cost must be factored in, of course, and I realize I also need new wheels. Deore would be nice, but maybe not possible. Who else makes GOOD hydraulic braking systems, inexpensively?

I plan on visiting my LBS to get their input, but also looking for more cost effective alternatives.

I don't build wheels, but am very mechanically inclined.

No ---- I'm not nuts!

Tektro has some decent ones, many of which also use mineral oil.

Really the best place to ask would be over in the MTB forum.

I've got disc brakes on my Kona Splice crosstrail and to tell you the truth I am not entirely sold on them. Disc brakes add extra weight, and I have had issues with the break pads not retracting all the way after use and rubbing on the disc.

My 2 cents is skip the disc brakes and spend the money on some nice flat resistant tires or a Garmin.

the frame if it didn't ship with disc brakes , the tab on the frame may not have been faced , the surface, machined flat and in alignment.

but the bike shop should be able to do that, if required..

or, of course consider taking it in for a a trade-in and getting another bike even if the same one the bump up to disc brakes , as stock.

the shop you got it from in the 1st place should make you a fair offer.
