I haven't ridden regularly in over twenty years and am hoping for a great bike that will last, get me in shape and be fast and smooth. I sold my ancient Trek 1200c Road Bike because it was just too uncomfortable for me and I don't like the riding position.

Here are my choices:

Trek 7.2FX. Retails for $549; LBS has for $499 and lifetime basic tune-up.
2013 Scott Metrix 30. Retails for $749; LBS has for $549 and lifetime basic tune-up.
Fuji Absolute 2.1 Retails for $490; LBS has for $400 and lifetime basic tune-up.
2013 USED Specialized Sirrus Sport Retails for $549; LBS has used but like new for $400. Will be completely tuned-up upon sale.

The Fuji dealer will give me $100 on my old Haro mountain bike trade, the Specialized dealer $125. Trek/Scott won't take the trade. I don't really feel like selling on CL and it will sit another five years in the shed.

I love the look of all of them and they all ride very nicely as well. All three shops have great local reputations. Service was terrific at all three shops.

I don't really have knowledge of the components, reliability, etc. I'm asking because I would appreciate the opinions of people who do have knowledge. If you don't have an opinion that's great - id like to hear from those that do.

Ok, the Scott and Specialized looked slightly better spec'd. Fuji looks pretty entry level. Trek is a solid, though IMO boring choice.

In the end, you get what you pay for. Any of them should be solid choices. It really comes down to which one fits you the best.

They're all quality bikes from reputable brands. None is head-and-shoulders above the other in specs. Best idea is to test ride all of them and pick the one that fits you best and whose ride you liked the best. If a bike doesn't fit you or doesn't ride the way you like,then it doesn't matter how nice the parts are,it's not the right bike for you.

Seriously, OP, as others have said above: the four are pitched roughly at the same level. They are pretty much equivalent in frame/wheel/component quality. If this is the price point you've settled on, any one of them will do just fine. The only relevant question is, quite simply, which one feels/fits/looks best to you? Decide that, buy it, and ride. If you are going to let other factors (e.g. trade-in etc.) come into play, that may modify your decision -- wrongly, in my view, but that's a separate issue.

That is why you won't (and shouldn't) get some kind of definitive answer. Why would you decide which one you want based on a poll of others' opinions? You're the one who's going to ride the thing.

Couldn't agree more! It seems like every other thread on this page is someone asking this same question on these same models. Pick the one that speaks to you, that said I ride a Sirrus Sport. Have had no problems, customized a bit to fit me liking, and loving it.
