I am new to cycling and to this forum. I just picked up a DS2 and only one ride so far on a gravel and dirt rail trail for a few miles. I am just trying to get in shape now. Lots of good info in this thread. thanks to the contributors. I will post a photo when I can.

thanks Rummy. Your DS3 in the blue looks great. I would have chosen a DS3 if the budget would have allowed; it seemed a great value. I have that same seat bag that was suggested by the LBS. I am to much of a noob to know whether I should think about getting different pedals.

I did the math. 800 bucks in parts and it would depreciate the bike as my -13 came with hayes hydro brakes, and I upgraded the fork to a rock shox trekking unit.
A new Salsa Journeyman is only 1100. Makes no sense for me.

There's been construction on my favorite trail this spring. The Ohio Erie Canal Towpath. It opened up recently, and I got a chance to do 30 miles on it Saturday. Didn't get many pics, but here's a quick one of the DS while I took a pit stop. It's mostly crushed limestone, so the bike gets dirty, but it's such a scenic and extensive trail.

Nice photo Karmajack. I need to add similar accessories. Related to your earlier post, I will be interested to see what fenders you might end up with.

I decided to hold off on fenders for a bit. Maybe in the fall or next Spring. I looked for a quite a bit, and the options are almost overwhelming. I narrowed it down to a few different ones, then put it on the back burner.

If interest, there are new colors for 2019 DS3 and DS4 on trek website. I have an odd attraction to Volt Green.

I still have the stock pedals on my Neko. I bought a set of toe clips that attach to the pedals. I don’t know that I’ll use them full time but I’m doing a sprint triathlon next month and although I don’t expect them to give me any pull up power but I thought I’d give them a try.
So, can anyone tell me the best way to remove the reflector on one side of the pedal so I can screw the clips in? I can’t really tell exactly how they’re attached and don’t want to break them off if I can avoid it.

As with most things in my life, I was greatly over thinking that. My clips got here today and I popped the reflector off in about 2 seconds.

Lol. At one point yesterday, I was going to dig into my closet and find those stock pedals to see about those reflectors. Then I totally got sidetracked and forgot. Glad you got it figured out. Pics pls.

I loved them. Took me a minute to get the hang of it. It gave me just a bit of an edge on the uphill on my morning ride. It was damp this morning and my feet didn’t slip around at all. And you don’t even have to think about taking your foot off the pedal.
I think I’ll really appreciate being able to be more lax with my shoe choices when I’m going out for a casual ride for dinner or to meet up with freinds.
