Lemond Wayzata!!!

First of all let me just say.... I LOVE CRAIG'S LIST!!! LOL!

I picked up this beautiful Lemond Wayzata for a song on CL this past week. I had never owned a steel bike before and when I saw this one listed I had to have it. It's a 2002 model and from the info I have found it was built on Lemond's Cross frame and it actually came with the flatbar. I think this is a pretty obscure model that not a lot of people are familiar with. It's built with Reynolds 853 steel.

The bike is in almost new condition and it came with some nice (not great) components but in my typical fashion I started right in on the upgrades. The bike is a 59cm and it was just a touch too large for me with the stock stem (130mm) and a setback seatpost. So I sourced a shorter stem on ebay and robbed my parts bin for a nice Thompson zero setback seatpost. I plan on using this bike for around the neighborhood and on the railtrails so I don't really need a wide gear range. I found a great deal (again on CL) on a nice carbon FSA crankset and removed the larger chainring. This also meant I had no need for the front derailleur so that was removed as well. Rounding out the list of upgrades, I saved the best for last. I recently purchased a Merlin Titanium road bike to build into a flatbar road bike and it came with a set of brand new Mavic Ksyriums and I have set of Mavic Carbone SLR's that I'm going to use on that bike so I tossed the Ksyriums on this bike.

Additionally, I did a complete tuneup including new cables but I still have a few things I would like to add such as an XT rear derailleur, XT shifter and I may convert it to canti brakes. It's just about done so I thought I would share. Let me know what you think.

WOW. Completely love what you did with it. Fantastic mix of old and new. That is one killer bike!!!

Weird coincidence, the local CL had one listed for sale now too. I’m very tempted, because I'm looking for a flatbar road bike now. However, it is for sale by a local business/flipper type and probably not a very good deal. It is about half price of what it sold for new and I have a hard time justifying that for a 12 year old bike that I would want to upgrade. Still it is a Lemond and steel…

Lol! I havea buddy who already offered me $1000 for it. I turned it down but told him he could have it with the stock wheels for that! Lol!

Funny name for a bike model! Wayzata is a western suburb of Minneapolis where Lemond lives or used to live..

The bike is almost complete save for a new saddle and rear derailleur so I thought I would share some updated photos with you guys.

C&C welcome!

Boy, you weren't kidding when you said, "Almost new". That sucker looks it!!

Curious as to how many teeth that chainring is currently?? (I love gears so I'd have probably left the other chainring on but definitely looks cool w/ just 1)

Beautiful bike!! Congrats!!!

P.S. Also curious as to what it weighs in at????

One question. Has that bike got a 1 inch fork with a quill stem converter ?

Two recommendations. Love the bike but if it was mine I would need some small bar ends and I know there not cheap but these tires on that bike would be fast and comfortable "good looking too":D

That looks nice. The local Wayzata is still for sale too...mocking me. It even went down in price. I think it's still a bit high though. I keep telling myself it's the wrong size so I won't be tempted. However, your beautiful build isn't helping.

Thank you!

The front chainring is 39T. The rear is 13-26 so it's basically like only riding in the smaller front chainring. I almost never use the larger ring on any of my bikes which is why almost all of them have it removed.

The bike weighs 19.14Lbs as it is pictured. :D

The bike has a 1" threadless fork. I have a standard 1 1/8" stem on it with an adapter.

The bike came stock with some small bar ends but I wasn't a fan so I removed them. Those Schwalbe tires are nice. I did just install the tires that are on the bike. They are Bontrager AW3 Hard Case Lite 700x25 and they are fast but don't look as good as the Schwalbes.
