A hybrid for Luxembourg and it's vicinity
 

Hi all,

I would like to get a hybrid for the following:

1. 90% asphalt, 10% paved
2. I will ride it 1-2 a week, possible longer tours
3. 400-750 EUR price range (it is like 550 -1000 USD)
4. I will get it in this shop: Listes des prix (they sell Trek, Merida, Moustache, Giant, Wilier, Brompton)
or somewhere in Germany, but the prices should be similar
5. Obviously it should be a hybrid. A few things that I'm not sure of:
6. Suspension yes or no? If yes, lockout yes or no?
7. Tyre specs?
8. Obviously it needs to be equiped with lights and a good protection from water spraying.
9. If you could mention a few models that fit the bill, I would be really grateful.

I'd avoid a suspension fork for the kind of riding you are doing. You have a pretty good idea of your needs. I'd talk to the bike shop and get their advice.

If you end up getting a bike with front suspension, you will definitely want the ability to lock it out.

What's more, a suspension fork without the ability to lock out, will be a very basic suspension design and probably not worth getting anyway.

Ok, than I will get a bike with suspension and the lockout ability. That is another criterium. Perhaps a few recommendations?

I'd get a country bike to handle both pavement and the off road.

I'd look into a Salsa Vaya, Trek Crossrip, Kona Rove, Diamondback Haanjo and Fairdale Weekender. They should all fall within your budget.

They will take mudguards, a headlamp, a rack and wider tires for commuting.

I purchased a Trek "Dual Sport" while in Italy this spring, I am very happy with the purchase. With the standard 700x38 tire, it was great on both pavement and gravel trails. I selected the basic model with the rigid steel fork. It had a smooth and comfortable ride and was fast enough for longer rides. The saddle and pedals were well made and durable, I didn't need to upgrade anything.
