Marin Fairfax? Anybody have experience with it?

I was gonna buy a BD bike. I went back to the bike shop with a bigger budget than the last time I was there (when I couldn't afford anything) they were showing me some hybrids for around 450, I didn't like em that much and asked if they had anything a little better. They ended up showing me a very fast looking Marin Fairfax that was 550. I really liked it.

I decided to not go the BD route and just buy that Marin. I went today put a hundred down on it and got sized. I don't know which one it is, it looks like an sc5 based on marin's website.

Anybody have one of these? How did it hold up etc?

Not helpful... but I know my way around Fairfax over in Marin county ;) What I do know is Marin tends to make quality bikes that can take a lot of abuse and serve their owners well.

I know it looks damn pretty and is very light too. I just have never heard of them, just the usuals like trek Giant etc

Ahh then fret not, they've been around a while and are quite large for not being one of the "big boy" brands.

They're a small bike company based out of Marin, California. Not as well-known as the "big boy" bike brands but they have good quality bikes for a very reasonable cost of ownership available.

The Marin Fairfax sc 5 is a seriously sick top of the line fitness hybrid comparable to the Trek FX or Cannondale Quick, both well-liked around here. :thumb: I have the Marin Muirwoods 29er all-around assault bike.

Congratulations on your new acquisition. Enjoy! :D

At least around here, they have a high resale.

Thanks guys, I feel better about it now. I'm having them swap out some wider tires on it, which they'll do for free

With a traditional road bike, there's no room for wider tires or for fenders and a rack. This is why people often buy a performance hybrid and they're suitable for mild off-rides as well - and most people don't really ride technical singletrack.
