I have about 1000 miles on my 2014 quick 4. It's been great as an around town bike. I'm actually still running the stock tires, haven't had a flat yet, knock on wood.

They're great bikes for the money.

I have checked them on GOOGLE and there are few, but good, reviews on the CX1. And this was AFTER I had already seen it on Cannondale's website, and subsequently bought one.

A quick review would be that it is pretty nimble, very stable, rides surprisingly forgiving on bumps, shifts and brakes smoothly, and most noticeably, a very upright riding position. My first 27km on the CX1 and my neck and shoulders felt perfect.
I even took it across a farmer's field and it was a pleasant ride.

I think there is little else out there that gives such a combination of versatility, performance, comfort, and class.

I have $500 max to spend for a hybrid. Was looking at Trek FX 7.2 and Cannondale Quick 8.
The Trek is $489 and i like the puncture resistant tires. The dealer is about 1/2 hour away.

The cannondale is $440 and is sold around the corner. When I asked about the quick 6, the guy said the difference between the 6 and 8 is negligible and for the savings the 8 is worth it.

I've done numerous searches but couldn't find any comparison between the 6 and 8. Does anyone know any specifics about this?
I've read other threads about Trek vs Cannondale and it seems they're really comparable so I'm leaning towards the 8.
Am I splitting hairs here?

What he said for sure! Even If you have to drive a little ways to find one id recommend doing it because the Quick 4 is awesome! I dont know if you can get one that cheap but if you can, by all means do it!

My dealer sells the 2016 Quick 6 for 449.00. Sounds like you need to shop around at other shops if your dealer is selling quick 8's for 440.00

I bought a Quick CX3 a few months ago, and got to put it through it's paces this spring on wet grass, gravel and muddy trails. It seems a little twitchy at low speeds, but other than that I don't have any complaints. I have a road bike, also a Cannondale (Synapse), so I don't see the need to use it as a road bike, except maybe a short ride to get a coke or something. The only thing I've seen a need to toss was the cheap pedals that came with it. Replaced them with Shimano SPD M545 Off Road/Sport pedals and paired them with a pair of Specialized shoes, which are very much like a traditional stiff road shoe, with the exception of a slightly lugged area around the front. Works great for not slipping on clay/hard pack mud trails, and grass. Great for gravel trails and even (mild) trails in the hills and woods. The hydraulic forks are great for this purpose, and just a twist of a knob and they're back to solids for paved paths and roads.

Maybe it's just a regional thing, but I see folks around here that own hybrids use them for road riding 99% of the time. Even though they are well suited for a commuter, or a "every day" use bike, I don't see the point in buying them as a "road" bike. I have a Cannondale Synapse, that I ride as a road bike. But, to each, their own.

I do have to say that the CX3 seems very "fast" for a hybrid, I noticed that in the first few seconds of my test ride. I'm using mine basically for bike trails (usually hard pack gravel) and paved and unpaved dirt and grass trails.

Comfort: For me, the bike needed very little fitting, and I have to say that it's comfortable as heck to ride, and when people ask me for a recommendation for a "comfort bike" (not sure what that really is), I suggest that they try one of the Quick series, or other brand similar hybrids. Given no serious aches, pains or physical and medical limits, I think most folks could ride the CX3 all day and be comfortable. That of course is subjective, but it's just such an easy bike to ride, in my opinion. The hydraulic disc brakes will give any level experience rider a little more confidence, as they get used to them.

Price wise, it's about somewhere in the middle, as far as aluminum alloy bikes go. I think retail was just under 1K, somewhere, don't remember for sure. Obviously you can almost triple that if you want a carbon frame CX series. I've seen hybrids on the lower end (aluminum) from various makers at about $500ish?

Anyway, I think it's an all around great bike, and would really suite a "city dweller", if not overkill for just riding back and forth to the market, pub, or coffee shop.

I know this is an older discussion but I cant find info on this topic anywhere! Can someone please explain to me the difference in the Quick and the Quick "speed" models? I am considering purchasing the 2016 quick speed 1 or 2 but also see the Quick series and cannondales website does not explain the differences! I know the Quick CX has the front suspension which I do not want but as far as the quick and the quick speed I have no idea! thanks in advance

I am about to join the Quick club. I have ordered a 2017 Cannondale Quick Disc 1, and I am supposed to pick it up near the end of this month.

I did quite a bit of online research and went on quite a few test rides. I looked at Diamonback, Trek, Specialized and Cannondale. During the course of my research I decided to increase my budget from about $300 when I first started to about $1300 when I was ready to make my decision. I ended up getting the Quick 1 for $1175.

It is my understanding that the Quick Disc took the place of the Quick Speed. The guy at my LBS told me that the Quick Speeds are no longer available, unless some bike shop still has one or more in stock. I am not sure if the frames are the same or not, but I do know that the components on the Quick Disc 1 are a higher grade than the components on the Quick Speed 1 had been.

I am not an experienced rider, but I hope to get out on the roads and bike paths quite often and use the new bike as motivation to lose some weight and get into better shape.

Congrats on the new ride. That bike looks real nice on their website.
You mentioned the frame, and whether it's the same or not. I've read that they shaved 7oz with this new frame.
Most of the other components are the same as the outgoing Speed 1, except for replacing Tiagra with 105 now.
That new "Darkest Blue" paint looks amazing! I need to ride one of these

EDIT: after a bit more of a comparison, I see that the grips, saddle, and stem have changed slightly. Nice.

Thank you very much. I believe that you are right about the upgrade from Tiagra to 105s. That also means that it went from a 10 speed to an 11 speed.

As far as the "Darkest Blue" is concerned, it does look very sharp. But I really can't see any blue color in it at all. Maybe my eyes are just getting old!

Midmod, did you get the new bike yet? A shop near me says they won't have it til September.
A factory outlet in Mass says they have one, but it isn't built yet.
They're suppose to call me when it's ready.

I don't have the new bike yet, but I am supposed to get it on August 26. When I ordered the bike I was told that the wait was just over a month, so I am over halfway to the finish line.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I have my Quick - the 105 worked well for me and you will be enjoying it long after the extra cost will be a relatively minor matter

Thank you, FamilyMan007. I agree that the most important thing is to enjoy the bike. It is always nice to receive validation about a decision or purchase that you have made.

I appreciate your words of wisdom about not worrying about spending a few extra dollars in the beginning. I was very hesitant to do so at first, but the more that I thought about it, the more sense it made to get the best bike that I could reasonably afford. Hopefully, the Quick Disc 1 will be as much fun as I think that it will be.

I purchased a 2015 Quick CX 3 brand new last week. I bought it thinking eventually I may trail ride. I have not ridden in a long long time and like 30 pounds ago. I rode a 2016 Quick 5 at the store before I bought the CX and enjoyed the ride, but spending that much money on first real bike I felt like having the better brakes and drivetrain were worth the money. Anyway, I saw the 2017 Quick Disc 3 on their website and am thinking about swapping the bikes out. I have only ridden roads so far, do you guys think that if I am on the road 90% of the time that the Quick is a better choice?

that's really your call. if you don't need a front suspension and wider tires for your riding preferences since you are staying on road then I'd say definitely get the Quick 3 Disc. When I got back into bike riding, I dunno like 6-7 years ago or so, I thought the same thing - that I'd ride on the road but also on trails and would enjoy a front suspension and need the ability for wider tires to fit. Turns out I never road off-road in 4 years plus - so I sold that hybrid and bought another one more oriented about speed on the road. YMMV

Changing bikes after one week may / may not be expensive - if you can get appropriate value for the CX then I would see the Quick as more appropriate for 90% road use.

I say this as someone who owns a 2012 Quick SL1. Since buying my Synapse I have been concentrating on that bike this year. However, I took out the Quick for a spin with my good wife just this afternoon - just loved riding it again (running on 35mm Marathon Supreme tires at 75/85 front/rear pressure- soo smooth ) and quite capable of stretches on the types of trails I am interested in trying occasionally.

Under those circumstances, yes. You should find the Quick lighter and a bit more agile also.
It can certainly handle some trails as well, but I'd go on packed gravel/limestone only.
That bike has some decent components for the money.

It's been a couple of years so let's wake this thread up.


Sold off our hybrid fleet last year because we were only mountain biking at the time only to decide this year that both the wife and I want to start participating in charity rides on the roads. Neither of us enjoyed riding road bikes so we decided to go the hybrid route again. We went to check out Specialized bikes first but, to be honest, I wasn't very impressed with the cost of the Sirrus line now as it compares to the equipment that you get. They've scrapped the lighter aluminum frames and stuck with the lower level ones all while raising the prices along the way. My lighter Comp disc that was $999 a few years ago is nearly $1300 now and comes with a worse frame. They had no interest in negotiating prices so we looked elsewhere. Trek's FX line we enjoyed but the prices for what you got weren't much more impressive than Specialized. The local Giant stores never seem to carry anything in stock for whatever reason so our option there was to order a bike and then test ride it. No thanks. Last on our list was Cannondale. They had some leftover 2018s that we both test rode and liked them quite a bit. Very smooth riding bikes that feel surprisingly light as well. I thought the Specialized felt more nimble. The bike shop wanted them gone so they gave us a hell of a deal. I ended up with a Quick 2 (1x11 Sram Apex) and my wife ended up with a Quick 1 (2x11 105). We scored both bikes for $1,300 total.

I'm hoping I like the 1x11 on my Quick 2 but I have 1x11 on my mountain bike as well and it has issues staying tuned properly. I find it needs adjustments far more frequently than any 2x and 3x bike I've owned in the past. For the price of the bike I felt it was a risk worth taking.

Works for me - I do not ride my Quick SL1 very often these days, but when I do I still find the ride very smooth (using Marathon Supreme 35's)

I am confident your wife will enjoy changing gears with the 105 (I have no familiarity with SRAM and/or 1x11)
