2004 Trek 7500 FX. How much is it worth

Hello,

This is my first post on this site and I think I will like it! I am in the market to buy a new bike and I came across one I liked. It is a 2004 Trek 7500 fx. Pretty good condition. He was asking for $300 but i offered $250. After further research, I think I payed too much. Is Bicycle Blue Book - Used Bikes a good source to find out how much I offer? If not, how could I find out.

Any information is appreciated.
Thank you,
Doug

Yes, Bicycle Blue Book is a good resource - but keep in consideration that your local market may be higher or lower.

The 7500 is pretty high up the food chain for the 7000 series.

If you bought it at 250, it's worth 250 to you................. MHO Especially if it needs nothing................... again MHO

Thanks for the quick response. I offered that based on the knowledge that I thought it was a 2008. It took a while to figure out what year it was. I just want to make sure I am not over paying for it and that $250 is a fair price or if I can get it around 200 based off the blue book value. How do you determine if the market is higher or lower easily?

I havent purchased it yet. I was going to pick it up over the weekend with the current agreement being 250.

Thanks again!!!

In Chicago, bikes are selling for 30% over blue book, easily and quickly.

It really depends on condition. Tuned and ready to go, with new or newish tires, chain, cassette and brake pads and you are doing alright. If it needs $200 worth of work, then you just did ok. Don't sweat it. I drop $250 on bike gear more often than I care to think about.

If you made your offer after having seen the bike in person, you'll look foolish coming back to offer less yet.

Making an offer before seeing a bike is almost as foolish.

The asking price probably was a bit aggressive for most markets, and you may have paid a premium price for a "good" condition bike. If it's like so many other hybrids on the market that have seen very few miles, you didn't do poorly. It's still a well made bike from a reputable company. And $250 won't buy much else than a child's bike at the LBS.
