question about giant escape frame

Silly question, but I could swear I recall the person at the Giant shop telling me the escape uses the same frame design as one of their road bikes. Am I making this up?

What does "frame design" mean in this context? Same frame? Same dimensions? Same materials? Welded aluminum tubes in a bike shape?

I have a Giant Escape 1 and was recently looking at Giant Defy road bike parked at event I was attending. That frame looked exactly like mine.

To answer shanej, I think I mean the exact same frame, just different name attached to it, but he could have just meant same type of alumnium. This conversation happened a year ago before I bought my escape, so at this point my memory is hazy but I was curious to check on that. I usually ride my road bike these days though

I'm gonna keep up with this thread and look around myself, because I own a Giant Escape 2 (2012 model) and it would be interesting to know. I'd be surprised if it was the same frame as one of their road bike lines, however.

It's not the same as the 2015 Defy. You can see the differences on the pics on the website. I don't think I've ever seen a fram just like the escape. I didn't like the wide flat square cornered top tube.

The materials and shape of the tubes are the same but the geometry is a little different. The Escape wheelbase is about three inches longer than the Defy. The top tube is about an inch longer but the head tube is slightly longer on the Defy. Angles are very close.
