any thought on this bike, for trail riding, eventually Pgh to Dc. Looks and feels like a nice bike. Pros and cons welcomed. new to biking and would like feedback please. Jim

Giant makes nice bikes. I would expect this would be the same --- I'm a little surprised that this doesn't have hydraulic brakes for the money.

It's a fast bike for sure, but to me (long distance rider/NOT a racer) gearing, geometry or lack of front suspension will not be the best combination for unpaved, bumpy or hilly trails.
If you like trails, and like to fly over the bumps - this bike may fit you well.

Otherwise, Giant Roam may be your other choice, even if slower, it will be more comfy, better for not so perfect trails and easier for hilly terrain.

If I was buying bike ONLY for the way it looks - Anyroad would be my choice. It's awesome looking...but since you are new to biking - make sure to buy a bike you will enjoy riding on, and one that fits terrain and your riding style/needs.

wasn't looking for a speedster, just a bike for trails, and casual riding. the guy waiting on me listening to me about riding trails said he thought that this one would be better suited for me than others with the straight bar, he noted longer rides i would have more hand options.

You can install bar ends, or even trekking/touring handlebar for more hand options - for cheap. Changing geometry, gearing or fork is either impossible, very expensive or time consuming.
On "longer rides" - and you talking about 335 miles ride (one way only) - your butt, neck, back, legs, arms and everything in between (including your hands), will take a toll.
Roam is not only more versatile, but also more comfy and cheaper than Anyroad. Your choice, your money.

Man, I love those Anyroad bikes. I feel in 2015 Giant outdid all the other makers with the new Defys and Fastroads bikes. Very nice designs and as usual offering more for the money.
I rode that Anyroad 2 and for 950 bucks it rides as smooth as a 1500 dollar bike. If only that Anyroad 2 were a double crank instead of a triple I would be all over one. I never use the small ring on my bikes and only see myself on one chain on the triple as well.

I guess that is why brands have multiple models - I love the flexibility my 'triple' provides even though I spend very little time using the small crank.
I get to have a relatively close-ratio cassette (12-28 10-speed) while retaining an option for 'easier' gearing for hills/strong headwinds/generally getting tired at the end of a really long ride.
IF my abilities improve enough (possible despite my advancing years!) perhaps I will put a higher value on the benefits of dropping one crank.

I'm impressed by the new Defy and Anyroad bikes too.
My local LBS should have an Anyroad in soon, in my size.
Oh yeah, I'm anxious to take one for a spin.
May not bring it back.:)

Bought that Anyroad 2 last September and rode it everyday until the winter and the snow came. Love the bike. And I think it's well thought/designed and executed bike. You get best bang for your $ with this bike if it fit your need and riding style. For me it is as I use it for fitness riding for about 1-2hour/day on streets around neighborhood. Also rode it on flat and unpaved trails as well as paved rail to trails. It handles well on all these.

The components are entry level stuffs but they work very well and exceed my expectation. Especially the newest Sora groupo. Shifting was smooth and accurate and ride great. They look cheap but thankfully they work 10x better than they look. I can't say enough good things about them. They might not held up well with beating up and abusing as with the XT and XTR gear on my MTB. But I don't ride this bike like my MTB. With what I use it for I expect this bike will last a long time and I won't expect to upgrade or replace any component any time soon. And I love the versatility of the multi position handle bar, brake levers and shifters

Someone mentioned no hydraulic brakes above? Why would you need hydraulic brakes for this type of bike? I think the BB5s come with this bike is great. I first disappointed with the brakes as I used to the super power on my MTB. But after the cable stretch during breaking in period and some dials and adjustments. They work great.

I highly recommend this bike for someone that has the same riding as mine. As long as you don't ride on steep hilly and rocky trails, it'll handle well on flat on and off road. But fitting is everything, give it spin, if it fit and ride comfortable for you, you can't go wrong with it, especially for the price point.

Any thoughts on how to upgrade the giant anyroad 2 to 11speed? It currently has a 3x9 sora. I am planning to upgrade it to a 2x11 compact. Thanks

Yes,just swap the entire drivetrain. You'll need a new crankset,and possibly a new BB to go with it. You'll need new shifters,a new chain,a new cassette,and probably a new rear derailleur. It's also possible you may need a new rear wheel,or at least a new hub,depending on what you have now(do you have 130 or 135mm rear spacing?). It won't be cheap,but it's doable. Note,with the advent of 11spd,10spd components are coming down in price,you can save alot of money by going 10spd,especially if you go with NOS.

yes, I have a 135mm hubs. I am also looking at the 10spd option but ill use a 12x36 MTB cogs. I do alot of hill climbs. Thanks for the insight:

I just ordered the Anyroad 2 today!! My shop will be taking off the extra brake levers and installing my aerobars on it. I also plan to use the bike for different types of rides. I will be switching wheel sets that will have 700x25 for long road rides and then I will keep the 700x32 for my trail rides.
