serfas performance rx saddle
 

I know seat preference is very subjective, but would like opinions from anyone that using this seat. I have a new to me 2013 Giant Escape RX1 that I'm going to have to change the seat on. It has many positive reviews on amazon, so thinking of giving it a try.

Since no one has any experience with this seat I would welcome a y and all suggestions for a good hybrid bike seat.

I will never pay more than 30 dollars for a saddle since I find Cannondale OEM saddles just as good as the 100 dollar ones. I think the older Cannondale Synapse saddles were the best before they changed it to Prologo.

The absence of responses is indicative. No one can tell you what saddle will work for you -- no one, that is, except 'you'. Simple. The only way you will know is by trying one/them/several out. Anything else -- others' advice ('what works for me') etc -- is a crap shoot.
My best advice: find a bike shop that carries a couple or even a few different lines, or has a barrel full of take-offs, and try them. Many LBSs will let you pay/try, and credit the purchase toward a different one if the first doesn't work, and so on until you find one that is right. Some mfgs (e.g. Specialized) supply 'test saddles' to their dealers.
Not very helpful, I know, but that's about what it amounts to.

I replaced the standard seat on my 2013 DS 8.4 with an RX performance after a particularly numbing and tingly experience in the nether regions.

Worked really well however in hindsight with what I now know, I probably could have got away with the standard seat with a bit of mucking around and adjusting.

That being said the RX performance was a very nice seat and worked well. Had it on for around 800 kms before swappig to a SDG Bel Air which looked a bit sportier :)

Check out Performance bike's in house brands for saddles. The Forte line, seems to great quality for cheap.

I know it's a bit late, but I have the Sefas Rx on my Trek Dual Sport 8.3 and love it. Had a lot of trouble with the stock saddle and can go 50 miles or so without any problems with the Serfas (much more than that probably has to do with the bike vs the saddle). For what it is worth, my dad has one on his Trek Domane too and loves it.

This is a little OT, however there is a difference between saddles that are supposedly the same model. The new bike has a Bontrager H1. For the old bike I picked up an H1 off eekbay. The H1 on the old bike seemed more comfortable.

Does the new saddle just need time to be "broken" in?

There's very little padding on the saddle. To me it's more of a road or racing saddle with no relief cut in the center, but it is the orignal saddle.

FWIW have had one on my 7.3FX for about 2 years now. First year got more mileage out of it due to weather and days off from work working out right for me. Last year still managed to get couple of rides in here and there. I have noticed some of the initial support as far as the under plastic part has a lot more give to it now. The gel is still somewhat comfortable however. I am about to spring on Sella Anatomica here in the upcoming weeks as I think leather is the way to go for longevity. But as others have said every saddle is going to be different for any rear that is attached to it. Try some out and see what you think.

I had not heard of Selle Anatomica until you mentioned it here. They look interesting and I have read very positive reviews. I am just wary of the spending that much only to get something that will not work for me!

I have read very positive reviews on them as well and while yes it is a lot on a saddle the main thing to keep you riding longer is comfort. I figure it is an investment and if I don't like it I can sell it to recoup a lot of what I paid for it. I am planning on ordering one next week. I was pleased with the few questions I had emailed them about they got back to me with answers within 48 hours with pictures I had also requested.

I'm partial to leather saddles, and love Brooks B-17, and Selle AnAtomica. I also find the stock Specialized Body Geometry saddles very comfy. Many of the OEM BG saddles can be found cheaply as take offs. Stop by a Specialized dealer, and ask to try some.
