Kinetic Smart Trainer woes

Around the beginning of this year, I bought a Kurt Kinetic T6100 smart trainer. After a couple month's use, the internal printed circuit board failed. The board was replaced with a minimum of fuss and worked properly for another 3 months or so before it too stopped sending power to the internals. No blinking green light, no typical start up sounds. This time, getting a replacement board was much more of a hassle, but they finally relented and sent a 3rd board back in August. And now that one is on the way out. Sometimes it fires up just fine, sometimes not so much.

I noted from day one with this beast that the power input jack appeared less than robust. So I've take precautions to keep all stress off the cord between the power brick and the jack.

I'm just wondering if other have had similar experiences with this trainer. I'd like to think I just got a bad unit, and that Kinetic could be persuaded to replace the whole thing. Otherwise I'm stuck with a rather expensive boat anchor

BUMMER! Sorry to hear of this. I have been on their smart trainer for 4 years or so and not 1 issue ever. But people are always complaining it seems about their newer stuff. Maybe they changed production quality and its not the same as it used to be.

That really sucks. I had a road machine with inride pod for years and thought their support was terrific. Just about a month after I sold it they changed their app and the stuff I loved all went behind a paywall. Did Kurt diagnose the reason for the failures? I would try to keep working with them but... you've had 3 of these failures in a year. At some point you should just get your money back.

I've since moved on to a kickr and was floored by how much I love the direct drive - no tire slip and no setting up the tire pressure and warmup before each ride. I paid $550 for my refurb kickr and its been trouble free now for more than 4 years.

For the record, I've still got an early vintage hydraulic KK Road Machine that works perfectly for what it is after many years use. I've got the original bill of sale for the new unti, and at this point I'm going to request a refund. We'll see how that goes. Whatever the outcome, I do hope for a smart direct drive trainer in my future.

Update;
The Road Machine is on its way back to Kinetic. Remains to be seen what they’ll do about it. Got a Tacx Flux 2. It’s working flawlessly.
