Bluetooth weirdness

So here's the scenario. I've got a Tacx Flux 2 that is connected via BT to an iPad running Zwift. I wanted to do a trainer calibration but couldn't find a way to do so from the Zwift app. So I used the Tacx utility software to calibrate. All went smoothly until a I restated Zwift and attempted to pair it to the trainer. No such luck. The trainer was completely invisible to Zwift. Oddly enough, my Edge 1030 connected to the trainer perfectly. But no other device, not my laptop or iPad or my iPhone. After a lot of tinkering and googling, I finally discovered that when I accessed the trainer via the phone to do the calibration, the BT connection between the 2 went zombie and would not relinquish the connection. Going into the settings on the phone, I forced it to forget all BT connections and shut down BT altogether. Then I restarted BT and made sure the trainer was no long in the list of connected devices. At that point, I restarted the iPad, opened Zwift, and it paired up to the trainer as usual.

Just offering this story in the hope it might save someone else the same aggravation.

Yep, Bluetooth can only connect to one device at a time. Problems can occur when it has been connected to multiple devices because you never know which one it is trying to connect to or has connected to in the background. The phone is the worst culprit. Turning off and restarting usually fixes the problem.

I'm all too familiar with the vagaries of BT, especially on older devices, but this is the first time I've encountered this manifestation. It was particularly enigmatic since everything was working just fine until I used the phone app to calibrate the trainer. Since there were a few other Bluetooth enabled devices in the room, I tried shutting them down and removing them one by one. Unfortunately, the phone was the last thing I checked, and the only indication of a problem was the inability to terminate the connection to the trainer by normal means.

And the strangeness continues... Today I learned that the BT keyboard I sometimes use with the iPad can make a mess of things. Once it's paired with the computer, it seems to prevent any further connections.
