Biker or Cyclist?

Good afternoon, all.

I lucked out a few years back and bought a bike at a garage sale only knowing that I wanted a road bike style bicycle. My brother in law informed me when I got home that for $40 I had scored a 1984 Fuji Touring Series IV. I really do love my bike and want to ride it more often as well as learn moe about bikes and biking in general. I'll happily take any advice people are willing to give.

I live near the Death Race and hope to ride in it maybe next year to cross it off my bucket list. I doubt I'd ever be able to complete it but to ride in it at all would be a huge accomplishment. Some day down the road, I'm determined to bike the CDT but know I have a lot of learning to do before I get there.

Question for the masses: Do you call yourself a biker or a cyclist?

Happy to be here,
Pockets23

Welcome aboard, Pockets23. I prefer the term Cyclist. To me, biker, is for m/c riders. Though recreational, less than 100 miles per month say, I consider just a rider. That's about as snobby as I get.

Cyclist. The term 'biker' conjures images of Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider.

Ditto to the above, "biker" is more commonly applied to motorcyclists, while "cyclist" is almost exclusively a bicycle rider, so it's not ambiguous.

Cool! Thanks everyone! I appreciate the warm welcome and totally understand the 'cyclist' over 'biker' argument now. And I'll be sure to check out that Classic forum, thanks!

at one point I owned over 100 bicycles and motorcycles
so I think the correct term would be "crazy"
