New Old guy, have bicycles, will not travel, much...for now.
 

But I am glad to have found these forums, and all the people who know much more than me!

I have only been introduced to recreational bicycling about 15 years ago (since I was a kid, in the early 60's), and have been a big fan of Rivendell Bicycles ( rivbike.com ), who taught me a lot about the more relaxed side of bicycling, and to what I have aspired to, and their ideals since that introduction.

But for all the information and equipment available at the time, I only bought 2 bikes, and didn't put much mileage on either, since the early 2000's. So, about 15 years later, here I am about to embark on the quest again, to become one with a bicycle and the sheer pleasure of riding for fun. That has been a long time, since I did that, from when I was a kid, but from the short taste I had more recently, I know I will love it once I get started again.

Now I am older, and creakier (and crankier), so I will need to prepare my body again for more exercise that it has been used to in a long time. But I am willing to give it another go, and I hope this time it will stick, if I don't kill myself in the process! I have many more aches and pains now, but hope some of them will get better by more movement on my part. It surely can't hurt to try, anyway.

I do have to replace my two Continental Top Touring 2000 tires (on my 1997 Giant Sedona, chromolly no suspension) mountain bike to take a ride now, but I am looking forward to that feeling of freedom on wheels again, that I haven't experienced in a long time. I have a lot of weight to lose now, and hope that I can stick to this to get myself back in shape.

Anyway, glad to be aboard, and having access to all you who have been there and done that, in the process since. Thank you for being here, and no doubt for the guidance I will find as well.

We are riding so-called 'older' custom tandem, built in 2003.
It only has 40,000+ miles on it.
Could we buy something newer? Sure, but not going to as this bike and components still work great.
Ride what you've got and enjoy it!

Hi Rudy and Kay,

Yes, I will be riding what I have-no need for change there, thankfully. I am just on the quest again to get back on the bike and feel better and fitter. I have since found the other areas of the forums that will help me do that too, and especially the Clydesdales and over 50forums. And I've gotten some needed accessories etc to help along the way.

Funny, I had a dream about taking a tandem out for a spin by myself, and it really rode great, and it was quick and required little effort-I was very impressed! Never have ridden one in real-life though, and doubt it would be as nice as I dreamt it to be (especially solo), but it was fun, and very real too! ; )

Maybe your post was the inspiration, so I thank you for that!
