Finally decided to enter a bike race!
Good Morning!
Kazzepink here. A little bit about me:
I have been riding my casual trek bike for years now. Prior to that I was riding a $75 Huffy bike around. I am 49 years old and enjoy bike riding very much. I finally decided to enter a bike race this Sept that raises money for the homeless.
That is what brought me here. I know I have to compete in a 62 mile journey within 5.5 hours and I am training for it now on this Trek bike (its not a bike intended for racing) and its hard however I can do this.
That said, I am hoping to learn a few things as I move forward. I intend to buy a racing bike next month. I think bicycle racing will be my new hobby for the next few years. I have been running a lot of half marathons and a few full marathons but to be frank, they are getting a bit boring for me now.
So I look forward to meeting you all!
K.

welcome to the forum. A race to raise money for the homeless? Not just a ride?

Congrats!
It's a race if there are prizes for finishing first, second, third. It's a group ride otherwise.
As it's probably a group ride, don't make the mistake of treating it like a race. Races have crashes and you don't want that. Stay well within your abilities and enjoy the ride!

Okay so my bad...its a ride not a race.
However that said, I want to do more of these. I have been involved with half marathons for a while now and I want to do something different and I truly enjoy cycling.
I have to realize there is a difference between ride and race.
My future goal would be to do a half iron man!

You have to ride much and rest when you need days off.
Ask for help when you have a problem.
