Greetings
Hi, new user here.
Have been shopping for a good starter vintage road bike to complement my running routine and take some of the pounding off my skeleton (ahem, bad breaks for sure, hence the bike). I've found so much great info here that I felt like I needed to finally sign up and eventually contribute something to the community for all its help.
I'm a male in my early 40s, about 183 cm tall and try to stay pretty active, but arthritis in my knees is starting to take a toll, so I'm hoping cycling can fill some of the competitive void left by more challenging runs.
Right now I'm shopping around locally and have been looking at, among others, an 80s Trek 330, what looks like about a 73 Raleigh Super Course, an early 70s Schwinn Le Tour, a Fuji Sagres SP and Fuji Royale. Have missed a couple of chances at what looked like great deals but I think I'm about ready to pull the trigger on something this week.
Seems like it's hard to find anything but touring bikes in my price range, but my plan (for now at least) is to find the best quality I can for my budget and strip it down to get it as light as possible. I feel like I'm more interested in something more specifically a racing bike, but I don't really have any good rationale for that since I've never raced road bikes. I just figure I want to work hard and go fast.
Anyway, big thanks to the vintage community here on the site, you guys have been very helpful in guiding my choices and I'll certainly post up some pics as soon as I have captured a bike.
Cheers,
BB
