Welcome from Des Moines, IA - home to RAGBRAI
Looking for sage advise and counsel as I expand my road cycling. Have done limited road riding for many years, biking trips in Europe, and did RAGBRAI last year. Upgraded to a Trek Bontrager 7.7 Hybrid couple years ago, great bike, but doesn't keep me up with the road bikers that I've started to do evening bike rides with. Currently looking to buy a "nice" road bike, something with electronic shifters and hydraulic disc brakes that will probably be my last road bike. I'm 64 yrs old, 6'4", 230 lbs and do 3-4 spin classes at local fitness class each week plus adding the outdoor evening rides. Usually push 180-220 watts on the indoor bikes, probably need to step this up, as I'm sure the bike is not the only reason I'm getting left behind on the group rides. Thx for the opportunity to join the Bike Forums.
PS - Iowa has some great paved bike rides, many on old railroad tracks that have been paved over. Many 30-80 mile ride options within a 30 mile radius of DSM
