Hello from Georgia

Hello all! I'm currently living in Atlanta OTP NW and wanted to introduce myself.

What do you ride?
Currently, I'm riding a late 90s Wal-Mart Schwinn that was free. I'm in the process of purchasing a better bike, and I'll be posting for advice soon. I ride for my commute to work, about 5 miles each way, plus to run errands around town. I ride about 50 to 125 miles per week, in all kinds of weather.

How long have you been riding?
I don't remember when I started. My first real bike was a rigid early 90s Trek that lasted for many years as a road commuter bike.

Welcome to Bike Forums. I lived in Decatur until I retired and moved to west central Florida. Good bike shops in your neck of the woods are Free-Flite Bikes, Atlanta Cycling and CycleWorks. My favorite (because I worked there for 3 years ) but not near you is Intown Bicycles near Piedmont Park. Have fun.

Thanks for the warm welcome! @RonH, I appreciate the list! Free-Flite looked like a quality shop, but it was too far away from me to ride to on my BSO. I'm car-free. I ended up compromising on a GT Traffic 2.0 that I'm picking up today.

Good choice. Where did you buy the bike? Got pics? Have fun on it.

I ended up purchasing from Performance. I would have rather purchased from a LBS and not a chain, but they had the best price and 20% back in points that I was able to use to stretch my limited budget. They are also within bike/ bus/ long walking distance from where I live, so I can take advantage of their free lifetime adjustments.

I'll post pics once I've had a chance to be on the bike. Right now, I'm on the hunt for a good budget tail light to increase visibility. I've got a serviceable wide-angle AAA light that I think I'll use as a steady light. I'm thinking of going with an single battery 18650 flashlight with a red filter for a blinky one.

Did you look at the lights at Performance? They have a nice selection. Get a good taillight and headlight. The headlight is so oncoming cars will be able to see you approaching. Stop by the Commuting forum for help with all your lighting and commuting needs, like how to carry your stuff, etc.
I bike commuted from Decatur to near midtown for 6 years and Decatur to Norcross for 2 years. The folks in the Commuting forum were a great help and even though I'm a certified cycling instructor (LAB) I gleaned a lot of practical advice from them. Good luck and stay safe.
