Hello from NY, soon to be San Jose

Hey, first time posting on the forum, so figured I'd start here.

I'm a 29 year old male, and I've lived in NY my whole life. I just took a job offer and found an apartment in San Jose, California. I'll be moving there in 2 weeks. In the past I've done more mountain biking, but lately I've been sticking to road biking. To my surprise, my apartment is just 2.5 miles from my new office, and instead of buying a car right away like I thought I would, I'm planning to just commute with the road bike for now. I've been doing regular 40-60 mile rides about 2-3 times a week.

I'm not planning on shipping my bikes, so at least initially I want to buy a new road bike. I'll be using it to get to and from work, but also hopefully doing lots of trails out there. Looking for something fast, comfortable, and something that will last through some abuse. Looking to spend in the range of $1,000-1,500, though I am flexible in either direction. I'm not looking for the lightest bike in existence (obv not at that price) so if the main difference between a 1,000 and 1,400 bike is a tiny bit of weight, I don't need the upgrade. But, if things are worth the upgrade for other reasons, I'm definitely willing to spend the money.

Any advice onto where to look would be great. I'm familiar with bikes direct, but not sure if they are good for getting more expensive bikes. If I was getting a 300-500 fixed gear, I think I would likely use them, on road bike in the price range I'm looking for, not sure if it makes more sense to go with a more "legit" company.

Thanks,

Bob

Welcome to Bike Forums.

Seeing as this is the Introductions Forum, you're not likely to get your question answered here. Please try asking your question in our Road Cycling Forum.

Thanks, yeah I noticed the rules after the fact, figured I'd look around the forums for similar posts, and if I don't find it will ask in the Road Cycling forum. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will link me to someone who had identical needs in a bike.

There are a good amount of bike shops in San Jose. I would think something more of a commuting bike would suit your needs. Did you check the commuting section here? There's also a NorCal (Northern California) section here that you are more then welcome to ask about bikes shops in.

I'm not looking for a race geometry bike, but I think I want something more serious than a commuter bike. I'll check out the other forums and see what I find out.
