Hello From St. Petersburg FL
Hello everyone thanks for having me as a member, I've visited this site a few times and finally decided it was time for me to join.
A little about myself, I'm a few ticks short of 50, but my passion for bike riding has never faded, unlike my hair. I guess I'm a "semi hardcore" rider, I've been riding bikes since I was a wee lad and was competing regularly in the ABA BMX races by time I was 11 years old. By time I was 14 I was ranked in the top 100 nationally (by points). I raced with a PK Ripper and a Race Inc bike that was built by myself and father.
When I turned 16, cars were much more import to me than bikes, I did sell both my BMX bikes and bought a Panda cruiser that I would ride to the beach quite often. I sold that when I was 19, and knowing the son if the owner of a Profile Racing bikes he was able to get me a new "mountain bike" wholesale. It was 1986 MT RACING Alpine Fox MB, back then it was awesome, no suspension, no index shifters, with motorcycle brake levers, it was a pretty solid bike, I still own it and it still rides nice and smooth. Not a whole lot of history on these bikes, I'll have to post it in the vintage section.
In 2001 I bought a Giant Cypress DX hybrid and I've put close to 20,000 miles on it, and it still looks and rides just as nice as new. Of course a couple replacement chains, derailer, freewheel, crankset, bb, tires, shifters over the years.
I ride about 60 to 80 miles a week, mostly on the Pinellas Trail and surface streets and sidewalks (yes it's legal here) when riding along busy roads. This area has gotten a lot more bike friendly in the last 5-8 years, but I still keep my head on a swivel when riding around here.
Wow, didn't realize I kind of went on a bit here, so thanks for your time reading this, and look forward to becoming a part of this informative bike site.
