Greetings from Michigan

I've realized that my incessant search for things to read and learn about all things bicycle is filling my current hobby void. I spent 25 years trail riding horses. Back problems and getting too old to not always keep a horse between me and the ground caused me to reluctantly give up the horse thing. Dog training came next. Enjoyed that for about 15 years. My spine and what will be my final dog's health problems ended that.

Moving on....a few years of addressing and getting control of back pain and spasms had me longing to return to outdoor activities. So now at 67 years of age my bike is my new passion. Hubby dabbles in it but I have to ride every day.

My bike is a 2010 Giant Women's 21 speed Suede DX (which mostly stayed in the garage for the past four years). It's equipped with a Bionx battery for the occasional assist....like today while riding head on into 30 mph wind gusts. "Unassisted" I'm currently doing 10 miles at 10-14 mph. Michigan winters may be a bit of a challenge but I'll be out there as often as possible.

My secret dream...to experience a ride on an actual sleek road bike. If only I could swing my leg up over it....

welcome to the forums... you can ride a road bike of the correct size...don't swing your leg up over it...lay the bike down, step over it, and pick the bike up to you...if you choose to try it, go to a reputable bike store in your area and have them assist you in sizing and show you how it is done.

obed7...thanks! Simple and obvious, I never thought of that. I'll talk to my LBS owner.

cb400bill...I'm in central Michigan, near Lansing.

Thanks both of you for the welcome.

Hi, Pauline! I'm originally from SE MI, and just recently received a state trail map for when we're out there next visiting family. Former horse person, too (former = no time since the 90s). Hope you enjoy the bike riding, and good luck through the winter!

Paulene:

I am in lansing and while I just joined this forum, I have a couple of bikes that you might be interested in testing. A cannondale road bike and a vision recumbent. I am five foot eight to give you an idea if they will fit.

Regards,
George (aka cranky)

Welcome, PaulineMi! I live just outside of Haslett and do most of my riding with the local club. Don't forget to visit the 50+ forum on this site; you'll fit right in with the rest of us old farts.

Thanks for the nice welcomes everyone.
BluGnat...I'm working on layering and toughing it out in all but the snow. :○

BlazingPedals...those "old farts", from what I've seen, kick butt!
