Hi!

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here and to bike riding. Well, I did ride as a child and as a young adult. But I haven't ridden for many years now and I'm trying to get back into it. Actually, "trying to get back into it" is a little misleading. I dug out an old bike my father-in-law used to use to use as part of my kayak trip transportation. The plan was to lock up the bike at my kayak destination down river, drive with my kayak up river to my launch point, launch and paddle, then lock up the kayak at the bike's location and ride the bike back to the car so I could drive the car back to the kayak and pick it up. Anyway, I found that I like riding the bike without any kayak considerations.

I'm 63 years old man. I live in central New Jersey and ride in a mix of rural, suburban and off-road easy trail situations. I'm a casual recreational rider.

I've been riding an ancient 1961 single speed Schwinn coaster bike for the last few months. My rides average about 10 miles and max out at about 25 miles for a total of about 50 miles per week. When I was riding regularly as a young adult in the 1970's I rode a 10 speed. So I do have some facility with using multiple gears.

Hey hollywoodeskimo,

Good miles for that old bike.

Welcome, keep it fun and go along ways.

Thanks 10Wheels. My father-in-law used to use the old Schwinn to deliver pizzas. After he passed away and mother-in-law moved to a smaller place, my wife wanted this bike. I wasn't so enthusiastic about it. It looks like hell. Rust coming through the original paint and rust on the chrome. Grungy/rusty spokes, too. But it keeps on keeping on with an amazing roll that I just haven't been able to find on another bike, yet.
