Greetings from NYC

Hi,

Just discovered & joined bikeforums in my search for info.

My lady & I are in the process of buying our first new "real" bikes, leaning towards hybrids in the $300-400 range. We live in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, for those of you familiar w/the area. I'm into baseball, jazz, fitness, bowling, gourmet cooking, reading, poker, & very soon, biking.

We intend to bike the greenway along the Hudson River, take some road trips (15-30 miles), bike in some parks, generally light stuff.

Previously, we've owned cobbled together used bikes, but decided we want something better so that we can really start having more fun biking. As I said, I'm evaluating some options - (Trek 7200, Gary Fisher Tiburon, Raleigh C40). Once I figure out the bikeforums site I'll post something asking for opinions about what I'm considering, our particular preferences, etc. I'll be grateful for any advice that will help in making a final buying decision, since they're all in the same general price range.

Meanwhile, glad to have found this place, since I expect we'll really be getting into this now that we'll have something fun to ride.

Look forward to talking to you.

Sup fellow NYer, I am out in Bethpage.

Here is a tip, buy used. There are tons of good bikes on craigslist.com right in Manhattan.

Check it out.

Here are two bikes in NYC for $500, right in Chelesa.

Realistically, if you can tune any lightly used bike up, change the grips and seats you have "New Bikes"

Here is one for the wife, probably ridden once and hung in the rafters since.

Plus, all these prices are negotiable, it's NY right?

Good luck and hope this helps,

Welcome from Staten Island! If you are looking for riding groups you are welcome to come out to SI (www.sibike.org) or check out here http://5bbc.org/.

Enjoy - NY is a great place to ride, just be careful on the streets.
