New Biker
Hello everyone from Connecticut. I've been bitten by the bike riding bug. Just a little info. I'm a 60 year old guy who does his best to stay in shape. I weight lift every other day and also (don't knock it till you try it, it's not as easy as it looks!) ballet. My son has several bikes, all quality ones, and suggested I try it out. First I took out his Specialized mountain bike and after about three miles I said no way. Then he had me try another one, a real road bike and it was great! I've been riding quite a bit this winter and decided to buy my own bike. After a visit to the local bike shop and shown a bike that was "perfect" for me for the tune of $1300 I went to craig's list. Found a bike, checked with my son and he said no as it was a department store bike. A GMC Denali. Not wanting to see me kill myself he gave me an older Japanese made Shogun. It's great! I've learned quite a bit in a few short months and can't wait to ride when it's warm. So far I haven't gone more than 10 miles at a shot but everytime I go out I want to keep on going. The bottom line is I'm incredibly excited about this and see it as a long term thing to do. I am joining because I've had some questions answered from this site. You all seem to be a great bunch! Thank you for having me. Who knows, maybe there will come a time when I can answer one of your questions. Thanks again. Jean of Arc

Welcome to Bike Forums young man.
$1300 for a bike isn't a bad place to start. Stop by the 50+ forum and say hello to the other old timers. I hang out there. I'm 71 and there are many others there old than me.
