Another new old guy in Arizona

Just moved (back) to Arizona, in my mid 50's. I had a great Univega Viva Sport that I had bought brand new while I was in college down in Tucson but after graduating in '81 I hardly ever rode it...kept toting it around for decades, but the area where I was living back East was terrible for riding a bike, so reluctantly I sold it five years ago or so. Then my life went through some major upheavals and now I'm back in Arizona where I can actually ride a bike and enjoy it without risking my life. To make a short story long, I still had kept a crappy Huffy department store comfort bike (that I had kept for tooling around the campground while on vacation in my RV), but here it just wasn't cutting it for rides more than a few miles.

So I started checking into a better bike. The local Craigslist ads typically seemed terribly overpriced for used bikes (even ancient rusted junkers); I checked out new bikes but even at BikesDirect the prices were way more than I wanted to drop.

Then the other day an ad popped up on CL. A 1985 Nishiki Riviera GT, and it looked almost identical to my old Univega. I went and checked it out; structurally sound, no rust, paint in good shape, all parts original, drivetrain was a little grimy but otherwise in pretty good condition. Seller agreed to a reasonable $90 and away I went with my "new" bike. I believe it actually is a slight step up in quality compared to the Univega I had.

It will be a few weeks before I can get into a place to clean and lube it adequately, I hope to post pictures then. Now I've got to get these 55 year old legs back into shape....
