Omg want so badly to try a tri!
Good Day all!
I have been wanting to do a tri for a long time now but what stopped me was the whole swimming part, because I don't know how to swim. So after turning 50 in January I started taking swimming lessons at the Y once a week. I also joined a gym with a pool.
My longterm goal is to do a half iron man.... my short is a sprint which I hope to do this summer.
Anyway, I came on here to learn more about this sport. I love to ride my bike and usually ride it all summer and usually ride about 50-60 miles once a week. I have done a few marathons and many half marathons. I walk them because of my knees.
My fear of a tri is not being able to finish within the allotted time....I suppose that's everyones fear tho.
Thanks for reading!
Look forward to reading more.

Hi and welcome. Competing and especially training for a triathlon can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. For sure swimming can be intimidating but you have taken the right steps and the biggest one by joining a class. In my experience joining a swim team should be your next step. You'll find the most helpful tips there. Kinda like bike forums is for the biking portion.
So many people say I wish I had done this or why didn't I do that instead of asking themselves why not? Not realizing the challenge of learning something new and conquering your fear is its biggest reward.
Remember don't just talk about it but be about it. Good luck in your training.

I also took up swimming at about the age 50. it took me a while to get the hang of it, so don't be discouraged, hang in there. what helped me was watching good swimmers and channeling them visually as I swam. it's one thing to be told what to do and how to do it, it's another thing to see someone doing it correctly. anyway that's the way I learn I guess. welcome to the forum, check out the triathlon section!
