Beginner - Wanna be biker
Howdy everyone! I'm looking for some info.... In 2014 my horse broke my back and in 15 I had a two level fusion. Well, surgery didn't go well so I'm scheduled for another one here shortly but I'm trying to fine a way to get out and do things. Kick boxing, running, Taekwondo, rock crawling/mud bogs, or riding my horse isn't an option so I've thought about bike riding! Grant it the last time I was on a bike...which was my sons bike...I ended up meeting the concrete and busted my chin and broke my hand.... Yeah laugh it up!! It was hilarious ... That's what I get for stealing my sons bike at night and riding on a sidewalk that I did not know...oh, that stupid man hole should have been some where else
!!! Anyways, what type of bike should I start out on, what gear do I need and how do I find out about bike clubs in my area?? All this letting around isn't me and I NEED to get out as soon as I can!!!!

Welcome to Bike Forums. Most newbies start with a hybrid. Ask the folks in the Hybrid Bicycles section for help and suggestions.

Hi and welcome to Bike forums.
A hybrid would be a good place to start if you do not yet know what kind of riding you want to do. Without knowing what you want to do, I don't know that anyone here can advise you further (except the ones who desire mostly to add you to their tribe so that they will be further affirmed in the choices THEY have made, eh?) ;-)
Also - since you have a back injury to consider - it might be wise to have a frank conversation with your doctor, or a specialist, about how your injuries and current normal might be affected by riding a bike. Some options in the world of bicycles, such as recumbents, are notoriously easier on the back than others, but are also pricier. Also that last bit is a GENERAL statement - and may have nothing to do with your SPECIFIC circumstance.
MY tribe, BTW, has losts to do with commuting, utility riding (errands and shopping), and riding with kids. Also old bikes. Also I am interested in how bikes can empower the poor by freeing them from the financial burdens of car ownership and percieved "need" for a car to access employment. Accordingly, I am also interested in bicycle infrastructure in communities.
So, txcherokee69, what interests you?
