Salutations

Hello everyone,

Names Kevin. Haven't ridden a bike in about 8 years, and the wife surprised me with a Trek 1.1, shoes and pedals, and a trip 300 computer. We had been taking about getting a bike for the couple of years and I've always been fascinated with road bikes. I'm excited to start pouring the miles onto that bike (slowly at the start).

I'm currently serving in the United States Army and stationed in upper state New York at Fort Drum. Beautiful scenery for a ride, if a bit cold. Hopefully I can gain some experience and find a local group to hang with on the weekends.

Looking forward to talking to you all,
Kevin

Welcome. Hopefully you enjoy your new bike. I fell in love with biking with a 2001 Trek 2300 whilst living in OR. I hope the 1.1 pleases. What kind of pedals did she get you? If you haven't riden clip pedals before (in case they are clip-in pedals), don't be ashamed if you fall on your ass a few times! I still do it on occasion.

She got me Shimano PD-R5 pedals(thats all it says on my receipt) and a pair of bontrager specter road shoes to go with it. the Concept of clipping is so mindblowing i have a hard time even practicing it. Going is easy, getting off is like a bomb blast in my brain. Practice hopefully will make perfect!

Yeah, you'll get the hang of it after a bit. I have had a few really embarrassing moments infront of full traffic loaded streets...yeah... Don't forget to stop and take a bow when it is like this. I have learned that is the best thing to do! But really, clip-in pedals make a huge difference. A good friend summed it up easy: "I can now pedal with just one foot. Try that with regular pedals."
