Steve from Colorado

Greetings from Colorado! I've been mountain biking the great trails of the Front Range and beyond for about 20 years. My trusty companion is a Merlin XLM, purchased way back in 2000. It's a phenomenal technical XC trail bike, certainly more capable than its rider.

The Merlin also makes for a fun commuter, as I'm lucky enough to have a course to work over 50% trails. In the last two years I've logged over 5000 miles, 26 miles per daily round trip. What an epiphany! Round trip by car is about 50 minutes. My daily commute time has doubled, but it's more like 100 minutes of fun riding with a free commute as a bonus.

In the past two years as I've learned the ins and outs of commuting, I've found a lot of good information here at bikeforums.net. My sincere thanks to all of those that I've been able to learn from over this time.

Hey Steve, you've got a lot of accomplishments under your belt! Did you get your bike out there in Boulder? There's a cool little bike shop on Pearl street called Vecchios. That's where I got mine from. I flew from California to get myself on the fit bike and measured. Picked up a road bike but out there in Colorado it's the perfect place for mountain bikes.

Welcome to Bikeforums!

When you get a chance, you might want to check out the mountain biking area or the regional section. We also have a commuter area you might like.

Have fun!

I did, in fact, get my bike in Boulder. I bought the frame, fork and headset from Excel Sports. The rest of the components came from various sources, including my previous mountain bike.

I know Vecchios. I agree; it's a nice shop! I haven't been there in years, but they're still around.

Err, this is a pretty crappy post, so maybe the pressure is off now.

Thanks all for the welcome!

It's got a quaint little feel to it, doesn't it? Loved hanging out there for two days. Not sure if they liked me pestering them but they didn't complain.

I think the hardest part was waiting 12 weeks for my frame.

Welcome Steve. I'm glad to hear that Excel Sports is a real place. I've ordered stuff from them for years but never have been there in person. You have some great riding there!
