Greetings from Jim in Tehachapi, CA

I am an old roadie who has been riding road bikes for over 50 years. In my retirement, I enjoy all kinds of bicycles but mostly enjoy restoring and riding classic road bikes. Classic steel is my favorite but I also enjoy transition era bikes (between monocoque carbon and classic steel) as they often display interesting innovation that will not be seen again.

As soon as I retired I dusted off my old bikes (the Trek 1500 and a Rock Hopper) and rode nearly every day. I live in the mountains of California where level road only exists to connect climbs and descents. I soon discovered two things. first, I really liked vintage (especially good steel) road bikes. Second, I needed lower gearing and a slightly more upright position to accommodate my age, rebuilt heart (2/3 of it works), compressed disks (in my neck) and my carpel tunnel syndrome. I started buying vintage frames and building the bikes (with period correct parts) as deemed by whim and my current condition. In the bikes I choose, I try collect a variety of riding experiences, as much as the machine itself. I also enjoy helping others with age related illnesses to remain on (or start riding) their road bikes by helping with ergonomics and a few modifications. It is nice to still ride your good road bike, instead of conceding to something more upright and clunky. I post my bikes on Pedal Room at OldRoadieTehachapi - Pedal Room

Welcome to Bike Forums. That's quite a collection of bikes. The folks in the Classic & Vintage forum would like to see some pics. And since you're an "old roadie" why not stop by the 50+ forum and say hello to the other old timers. I hang out there. I'm a 71 year old roadie.

Welcome. You do have a nice collection. I'm starting to get interested in classic bikes and restoring them. The people in Classic and Vintage have a lot of knowledge and are extremely helpful too.
